William T. Turman Family Papers


William Thomas Turman was a noted landscape artist, and former head of the Art Department at Indiana State Teacher's College. This collection contains photographs depicting Turman's classes and exhibits at Indiana State, personal and professional correspondence, and Turman family memorabilia, such as tintypes, dance cards, and genealogical information. A finding aid is available to assist researchers in locating specific items in this collection.

The Turman Collection consists of a variety of correspondence, paintings, photographs, certificates, textbooks, newspaper articles, magazines, diaries, speeches, poems, and family related artifacts. These works are generally based around or about William Turman, a penmanship professor at Indiana State Normal School from 1894 to 1934. Many of these artifacts are dated between 1870 and 1970.
