Special Olympics Indiana
In 2009, Special Olympics Indiana (SOI), a not-for-profit organization, celebrated its 40th anniversary. Tom Songster & Judy Campbell, faculty members at Indiana State University (ISU), established the SOI on June 6, 1969. For 20 years, the Special Olympics headquarters was on the ISU campus before moving to Indianapolis around 1990. The organization's mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
This collection contains photographs, documents, artifacts and oral histories that record the history of SOI and the achievements of the athletes.
