Fort Turman, Indiana Territory, 1810-1816
The United States Army expanded the blockhouse constructed in 1810 by Benjamin Turman and his sons in Sullivan County, Indiana. A large military installation, Fort Turman played an important role in the network of defensive outposts established in Indiana during the War of 1812. Fort Turman became the headquarters for scouts and spies and served as a garrison for rangers patrolling the Ontario and Wea Trails.
